Merchant Account Network Assures Gas Stations That Credit Cards are Crucial
Carlsbad, CA (PRWEB) August 2, 2008 - Despite concerns by many gas station owners that credit card processing fees are too expensive, A1 Merchant Accounts is assuring these businesses that losing their credit card processing equipment would be a mistake. A1 Merchant Accounts, a leader in the payment processing industry, says there are two reasons to stick with credit card processing despite the increasing fees leveraged by the card companies. The largest credit card company has announced that they will be reducing their fees for gas transactions, for starters, and gas station owners are also sure to lose business if they lose the credit cards.
While payment processing didn't used to be much of a concern for gas station owners, the fees for merchants have begun to rise as the profit margin for gas sales has gone down. Some gas station owners have started to charge more for credit card processing, or tell customers that they get a "discount" for using cash. Other gas station owners have started to forego credit card processing altogether. A1 Merchant Accounts is warning business owners that these tactics will put them at risk for losing customers who can go elsewhere to use a credit card or who don't like feeling like they're being cheated.
There is some good news on the horizon for gas station owners, though, according to the merchant account experts at A1. The largest credit card processor, Visa Inc., has recently announced that they will be reducing the fees that they charge merchants for gas transactions. The payment processing charge for debit transactions will be capped at 95 cents starting in July, while the overall rate for credit card fuel transactions will be reduced to a single rate starting in October.
A1 Merchant Accounts wants gas stations to know that now is definitely not the time to remove their credit card processing equipment. Not only would gas station owners be kicking themselves when they start to lose customers, but they would also regret the decision when the fee reductions go into place.
